Even Spaces is a multi-disciplinary practice based in Sydney combining Landscape Architecture and Industrial Design to conceptualise, plan and manage the creation of unique outdoor spaces.

We believe that there is a symbiotic relationship between architecture and landscape that can provide context to the broader environment. We approach each project with this in mind to provide rich, site specific outcomes.

Eve has worked within the Australian industry for practices including Aspect Studios, Pepo Botanic Design and AECOM in both their Sydney and Beijing studios. During this time Eve has worked on a broad scope of projects from residential gardens through to large scale urban parks.

Together with Nic, they combine their skills in botanical, landscape and object design to create contemporary gardens and outdoor spaces.

Eve’s approach to design focuses on the creating a strong conceptual framework to drive the project from concept through to documentation. With a particular interest in planting design, Eve incorporates a painterly approach to landscape design.

Whilst working in practice, Eve has contributed her time and expertise as a Tutor for Design Studio in the Landscape Architecture program at UNSW for consecutive studios since 2013.

Nic’s philosophy when designing our products and bespoke landscape elements is centred around a simple, well designed solution that stands up to the harsh, Australian climate.

“One of the first considerations during the design process is, what kind of environment will the design have to withstand? We are a big believer in using materials that age gracefully. This could be a hot dip zinc coating that develops a lovely salty zinc oxide appearance near the coast, copper which turns burnt umber then gradually oxidises to verdigris, right through to leaving timber in its natural state allowing it to silver and provide its own protective coating. This approach allows spaces to look better with age, to develop a history and in the long run save money on upkeep. Our products and bespoke landscape elements have a simple, clean, timeless aesthetic.”

Nic contributes his time and expertise as a tutor for Design Communications in the Landscape Architecture program for UNSW.

No matter the size of your space, from expansive rural properties to compact urban balcony gardens, Even Spaces will tailor a design process to meet the needs of your project. Once we have met you onsite, we prepare a fee proposal that clearly outlines our process and approach to your brief, the timing and fees for design.

Typically the process may include -

Concept design

A thorough understanding of the site is gained through a combination of onsite and desktop analysis. Consideration of the site opportunities and constraints in conjunction with your brief begin the iterative process of testing ideas and concepts. The design will be presented in plan, sectional elevations or visualisations complimented by images of plants and materials that have been selected.

 Council Approval/ Development Application

Where council approvals are required the drawings that have been prepared during concept design will be used as part of the application. A town planner may be required during this phase of the project.

Design Development

This considers and responds to feedback or conditions specifically requested by council. The design will be finalised in preparation for the Tender Documentation Stage.

 Tender Documentation

This develops the concept plan into a set of drawings including plans, sections and details that a Landscape Contractor will require to provide a price to build the garden. We work with other consultants to detail the specific landscape elements of the project.

 Construction Services

When a landscape contractor has been selected, Even Spaces can manage the contractor onsite during construction including answering requests for information.
