Pitch Perfect

Lemon scented sun-drenched nooks. Pitch perfect fields, goals scored, dreams forged. Star gazing under the silver screen.

The brief

The clients have a young family, so the garden needs to cater to a variety of activities. High on the list of priorities is a large lawn area for soccer matches, an outdoor movie screen, an area for growing vegetables – oh, and a car turning circle and overflow parking. It doesn't get much more multifunctional.

Site response

We can see this is a garden for a family. Private reading nooks; paving for handball; lawn for play, lounging and movies; vegetable beds to feed the family and nurture little green thumbs. Accommodating all of these into a site can be tricky – especially with such specific dimensions required for backyard penalty shoot-outs!

The car turning circle is one of the trickier things to nestle within the garden. We're breaking up the gravel surface with brick ‘tracks’, a subtle reference to the old Tempe Tram Sheds to the rear of the property.

Expanding the timber fence details will help screen two water tanks while also catching any stray balls. Keeping the locomotion of family life in motion.
